Who is Princess Leonor? Meet Spain’s future queen and find out all about Europe’s ‘Leonormania’

Spain is prepared to welcome the future queen, Princess Leonor, as she swore an oath to the constitution on her 18th birthday on October 31, 2023. The princess received a standing ovation from the members of Spanish Congress and Senate present in the joint session.

                                                                                                                                                           

 Princess Leonor is the eldest daughter of the current King of Spain, Felipe VI and Queen Letizia. Born on October 31, 2005 in Madrid, Spain, the people of Spain are charmed with her elegance and intellect for renewing the image of the royal house after the controversial phase of grandfather, former King Juan Carlos.

As per the media reports, the royal precedent king Carlos has been accused of money laundering before his abduction in 2014. The former King has also been accused of harassment from his past lover, princess Corinna zu Sayn-Wittgenstein, a German aristocrat.

These accusations have extremely damaged the reputation of the Spanish royal family, however, many still hold expectations from the future queen after her formal oath swore ceremony. Many Spaniards are turning to “Leonormania,” and some experts believe her success is due to her absence from the spotlight for so long. Because no one knows who Leonor is, everyone wants to know who she is.

In the time of social media, the princess has never been seen in any controversial topic and the perceived image is created. Fernando Rayón, journalist and professor of political information at CEU San Pablo University reported, “The royal family have got their timing right. While she was studying, the princess was very reserved in her appearances.”

                                                 

Leonor’s popularity is so widespread that, according to Hola magazine, only 21% of Spaniards believe she is unprepared for her duty as head of state. Little is known about Leonor’s personal life or what she enjoys doing in her spare time, but her prominence on the national arena has exploded.
